Bayern Munich produced a commanding performance to defeat Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu in a pulsating Champions League encounter. The Bavarians started aggressively, creating multiple chances inside the opening 30 minutes, but failed to convert them. Missed opportunities from Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry nearly cost them early momentum.

Despite the wastefulness, Bayern’s pressing game unsettled Madrid, forcing errors at the back. The breakthrough finally came when Luis Díaz finished a well-worked move, giving Bayern a deserved lead heading into halftime after a breathless opening period.

Kane strike doubles lead as Neuer stands tall

The second half began emphatically as Harry Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage with a precise low strike from distance following excellent work by Michael Olise. The goal exposed Madrid’s defensive lapses and gave Bayern a cushion they had earned through sustained pressure.

At the other end, Manuel Neuer delivered a vintage performance, making crucial saves to deny Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. Neuer’s composure and shot-stopping proved vital in keeping Madrid at bay during their most dangerous spells. Bayern’s defence, however, looked vulnerable at times, particularly with Upamecano struggling against Madrid’s pace on the counter.

Madrid found a lifeline in the 74th minute when Kylian Mbappé capitalised on defensive lapses to score and reduce the deficit to 2-1. The goal shifted momentum firmly in Madrid’s favour, with the hosts piling on pressure in the closing stages. Bayern appeared to lose rhythm after substitutions, and their attacking fluidity dipped noticeably.

Late chances, including a missed opportunity from Jamal Musiala, could have sealed the result more comfortably. Despite the late surge from Madrid, Bayern held on for a crucial victory. The result gives them a slender but significant advantage heading into the return leg, with both sides expected to deliver another high-intensity battle.
