India’s campaign in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 came to an end after a 3–1 defeat against the Chinese Taipei women's national football team in their final Group C match. The result meant the Indian women's national football team, popularly known as the Blue Tigresses, finished at the bottom of the group and failed to progress to the knockout stage.

Early setback puts India under pressure

India entered the match needing a win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament. However, the team suffered an early setback when Chinese Taipei capitalised on a defensive lapse to take the lead in the opening phase of the game. The early goal shifted momentum in favour of the Taiwanese side, forcing India to chase the match.

Despite falling behind, India responded with determination. Their persistence paid off late in the first half when forward Manisha Kalyan produced a brilliant strike from a free kick to bring the score level. The equaliser briefly revived India’s hopes and injected confidence into the side.

Chinese Taipei regain control

Chinese Taipei regained its advantage before halftime after a chaotic moment inside the penalty area. A rebound situation eventually resulted in the ball crossing the line, restoring their lead and leaving India trailing again at the break. In the second half, Chinese Taipei looked more organised and dangerous in attack. They controlled possession and created multiple chances while India struggled to break through their defensive setup.

The decisive moment arrived in the latter stages of the match when Chinese Taipei scored their third goal through a well-worked attacking move, effectively sealing the contest.

India bows out of the tournament

The defeat marked India’s third consecutive loss in Group C, following earlier setbacks against the Japan women's national football team and Vietnam women's national football team. While the Blue Tigresses showed moments of attacking promise, defensive errors and missed opportunities ultimately cost them dearly.

For Chinese Taipei, the victory confirmed their place in the quarterfinals of the tournament, while India exited the competition with valuable lessons as they look to rebuild and improve in future continental competitions.
