The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a massive reward of ₹131 crore for India national cricket team after their triumph in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The prize money will be distributed among the players, coaching staff and other members of the support team who contributed to the campaign.

Players set to receive the largest share

According to a report by PTI, the ₹131 crore pool will be divided among the 15-member squad along with the coaching staff and other support personnel. Although the BCCI has not officially revealed the exact distribution formula, sources indicate that the players will receive the biggest portion of the reward.

The remaining amount will be shared among the support staff — including coaches, trainers, analysts, physiotherapists and other team personnel — based on their roles within the setup. While the exact figure per individual remains undisclosed, the allocation typically prioritises the players who represented the country during the tournament.

A similar structure followed after the 2024 title win

A similar distribution model was followed after India won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. At that time, the BCCI had announced a reward of ₹124 crore for the team. However, the structure initially sparked a discussion when the head coach, Rahul Dravid, raised concerns. As the head coach, Dravid was slated to receive a larger share than the rest of the coaching staff. He objected to the unequal distribution and reportedly stated that he would not accept the bonus unless all coaches were paid equally.

Following his stance, the board revised the allocation and decided to distribute the reward evenly among the coaching staff members. Reports suggest that the BCCI is expected to follow the same approach again this year.

ICC prize money far lower than the BCCI reward

Despite the huge BCCI reward, the prize money awarded by the International Cricket Council for winning the tournament was significantly lower.

India received around ₹21.5 crore for winning the T20 World Cup, while the runners-up New Zealand national cricket team, earned ₹10.75 crore. This means the BCCI’s bonus for the team is several times higher than the official prize money awarded by the ICC.
