Australia knocked out of the World Cup

Persistent rain had the final say in Pallekele as Zimbabwe officially sealed their place in the Super 8s of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. With no play possible throughout the day, the washout confirmed Zimbabwe as the seventh team to advance, while Australia and Ireland bowed out of the tournament. Super 8 Group G1 is now finalized, featuring India, South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe, with matches scheduled in India. Group G2 will include Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand and either Pakistan or USA, with fixtures set for Colombo and Pallekele. Up next, Nepal face Scotland in Mumbai.

Swing rules at Kalyani as Auqib Nabi strikes back after Shami’s eight-for in Ranji semi-final

Swing dominated proceedings at Kalyani as the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Bengal and Jammu & Kashmir entered its decisive phase at tea on Day 3. After taking a slender 26-run lead, Bengal failed to capitalise, collapsing for 99 in 25.1 overs. Auqib Nabi spearheaded the attack with a fiery spell, finishing with four wickets in the innings and nine in the match, while Sunil Kumar and Yudhvir Singh provided relentless support. Earlier, Mohammed Shami’s eight-wicket haul had put Bengal in command, but their batters faltered under movement. Jammu & Kashmir now require just over 120 runs to script a historic first-ever Ranji Trophy final appearance. Read the full story

IRE vs ZIM match delayed

The Zimbabwe vs Ireland clash at 3:00 PM at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka has been delayed but has massive Super 8 implications. If Zimbabwe defeat Ireland, they will seal qualification and eliminate Australia from the tournament. However, an Ireland win would throw the group wide open, bringing net run rate into the equation. In that scenario, Australia would need a convincing victory over Oman and rely on a favourable NRR swing to stay alive. Having already stunned Australia earlier, Zimbabwe carry momentum, but Ireland, battling to survive, will treat this as a golden opportunity. In many ways, this fixture is a virtual knockout — not only for the two teams on the field, but for Australia as well.

Ravindra, Phillips power New Zealand to commanding win

New Zealand cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Canada in their T20 World Cup Group D clash on Tuesday, thanks to unbeaten half-centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips. Canada had earlier set a competitive target of 173 for 4, riding on a sensational 110 off 65 balls from 19-year-old opener Yuvraj Samra. His knock, studded with 11 fours and six sixes, made him the youngest centurion in T20 World Cup history. Captain Dilpreet Bajwa supported him with 36, as the duo stitched together a 116-run opening partnership to give Canada a strong platform. However, New Zealand’s experienced middle order made light work of the chase. Ravindra remained unbeaten on 59 off 39 balls, while Phillips smashed 77 not out from just 36 deliveries. The pair added a decisive 146 runs for the third wicket, guiding their side home comfortably in just 15.1 overs.

Who is Yuvraj Samra? Young Canadian batter becomes the first centurion from associate nations

In 2007, when the first-ever T20 World Cup unfolded with its new spice and taste, Canada had not yet played a T20I match, but the love for cricket among Canadians was strong. Back then, in the early 2000s, Canada was one of the finest associate nations that used to qualify in every big ICC event and that led to a father to inspire his child to play cricket. Baljit Singh, the Indian origin Canadian, one of the crazy fans of Yuvraj Singh, named his son after him and on Tuesday, after 19 years, when cricket has changed in many ways, Yuvraj Samra, the son of that crazy cricket lover, became a part of history with smashing first ton scored by a batter from an associate nation in the history of the T20 World Cup. A dramatic night at Girona FC’s home ground saw the underdogs secure a memorable 2–1 victory over FC Barcelona in La Liga. Barcelona started brightly at the Estadio Montilivi, dominating possession and carving out early chances. The turning point in the first half came when teenage sensation Lamine Yamal stepped up to take a penalty. His effort struck the post, allowing Girona to survive a crucial moment and head into the break level. The visitors finally broke through in the second half, taking the lead with a well-worked move that seemed to justify their control of the game. But Girona responded almost immediately.
