Mozilla is preparing to give users greater control over artificial intelligence features in Firefox by introducing a dedicated AI control centre. The update will roll out with Firefox 148 on February 24.
The move comes amid growing concerns that AI tools are often enabled by default in browsers, leaving users with little choice. Mozilla says the new system is designed to put decision-making back in the hands of users, allowing them to decide how and if AI should appear in their browsing experience.
Centralised AI controls
According to Mozilla, all AI-related settings will now be placed in one central location within the browser. From this control hub, users can switch individual AI tools on or off based on their preference.

The company noted that many browsers automatically introduce AI-powered features such as chatbots, translation tools or side panels, even when users do not actively seek them out. Firefox’s new approach aims to reverse this trend by making AI features optional rather than automatic.
Full opt-out option
In addition to managing individual tools, Firefox will also offer a single option that allows users to turn off all generative AI features at once. Choosing this setting will disable existing AI tools and prevent any future AI features from being activated automatically.

Mozilla said that the update reflects its broader focus on transparency and user choice, stressing that as AI becomes more common in everyday browsing, clear and simple controls are more important than ever.
