Robotics meets rehabilitation: MRC ushers in a new era of AI-driven therapy in eastern India

MRC marks 25 years with the launch of eastern India’s first robotic and AI-based medical rehabilitation services, signaling a major shift in advanced, patient-centric care.

The Medical Rehabilitation Centre (MRC) ushered in a new horizon for medical rehabilitation in eastern India. On Sunday, from the platform of 'MRC-25 Summit 2025' organized to mark the 25th anniversary of its establishment, the launch of robotic therapy and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based medical rehabilitation services was announced for the first time in eastern India.

Distinguished doctors, health administrators and rehabilitation specialists from various parts of the country participated in the day-long medical conference organised on Sunday to celebrate the institution's silver jubilee. The summit highlighted MRC's journey, experiences and patient-centric medical approach over the past two and a half decades. According to experts, the safety and effectiveness of robotic and AI-based rehabilitation treatment have already been proven. And this technology is set to bring major changes to healthcare services in eastern India within the next five to seven years.

The conference discussed fibromyalgia, post-stroke pain management, limb movement, bladder and bowel rehabilitation, sexual rehabilitation, peripheral neuropathy, tenotomy, Botox therapy and the use of AI and robotics in rehabilitation programs. Present were former Director General of Indian Spinal Injuries Centre AK Mukhopadhyay, Jagannath Sahu of Bhubaneswar AIIMS, Sanjay Pande of Patna AIIMS and many other distinguished doctors. MRC's founding director, Maulimadhav Ghatak, said, "Long-term pain and functional limitations after treatment and awareness about medical care are still low. To fill this gap, MRC is moving forward on the path of technology-based and humane rehabilitation treatment."
