Nation bids farewell to singer Suman Kalyanpur with state honours

Veteran playback singer and Padma Bhushan awardee Suman Kalyanpur was laid to rest with full state honours, prompting tributes from across the music and film industry.

Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur, one of the most respected voices in Indian cinema, was laid to rest with full state honours in Mumbai, marking the end of an era in the country's musical history.

The singer, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for her contribution to Indian music, passed away at the age of 89. Her final rites were attended by family members, admirers, members of the music fraternity and government representatives who gathered to pay their last respects.

As part of the state honours accorded to her, ceremonial arrangements were made during the funeral, recognising her decades-long contribution to Indian arts and culture. Visuals from the ceremony showed mourners offering floral tributes as her final journey drew emotional responses from those who grew up listening to her songs.

Suman Kalyanpur's career spanned several decades, during which she became one of the most recognised playback singers in Hindi cinema. She was known for her melodious voice, technical precision and ability to adapt to different musical styles.
