Apple’s plans for AI-powered smart glasses have reportedly been delayed, with the launch now expected in late 2027 instead of the earlier 2026–27 timeline.

According to Bloomberg, the upcoming device, internally codenamed N50, is being developed as a hardware platform for Apple Intelligence. The glasses are expected to integrate Siri along with several visual AI features aimed at enhancing everyday interactions.

AI Glasses to focus on real-world assistance

The smart glasses are expected to include cameras, microphones and speakers that will allow users to interact with Siri using voice commands while receiving real-world assistance.

Planned features reportedly include phone calls, music playback, live language translation and turn-by-turn navigation. The functionality is said to resemble existing smart glasses available in the market, though one source reportedly described Apple’s version as “better made.”

Apple is also believed to be working on future versions that may include health-focused capabilities and eventually support augmented reality features.

Vision Air Headset also in development

Alongside the AI glasses, Apple is reportedly continuing work on a lighter and more affordable mixed-reality headset called Vision Air.

The device is expected to succeed the Vision Pro headset, which launched at a starting price of $3,499. Vision Air is now reportedly targeted for release in 2029 after earlier development challenges related to design and pricing slowed progress.

Reports suggest Apple has resumed work on the project to improve accessibility and broaden adoption in the mixed-reality market.

Apple taking a cautious approach

The delay reflects Apple’s broader strategy of refining its AI wearable products before launch.

The company reportedly sees significant long-term potential in smart eyewear, especially because billions of people already use glasses or sunglasses daily. However, Apple is said to be avoiding a rushed rollout until both the hardware and AI platform are fully ready.

While Siri’s AI-related upgrades are still expected by the end of 2026, the smart glasses themselves are likely to arrive later once the overall experience is more polished.
