Google I/O 2026 kicks off tonight with expectations of major announcements around Gemini AI, Android 17, XR devices, and updates across Google’s ecosystem.

Google is set to begin its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2026, tonight from the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. The event is expected to focus heavily on artificial intelligence, Android updates, and next-generation hardware experiences.

The keynote will be led by Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and will be livestreamed globally. Several senior executives from Google’s AI, Android, and cloud divisions are also expected to appear during the presentations.

When and where to watch Google I/O 2026

Google I/O 2026 begins on May 19, with the keynote scheduled for 10 AM PT, which is 10:30 PM IST in India. The livestream will be available through Google’s official I/O website and YouTube channel.

The conference will continue through May 20 and will feature multiple developer sessions, workshops, and product announcements.

Gemini AI expected to take centre stage

Artificial intelligence is likely to dominate this year’s keynote, with Google expected to unveil major updates to its Gemini AI platform. Reports suggest the company may showcase more advanced “agentic AI” features capable of handling tasks and automation across apps and services.

Google is also expected to announce deeper Gemini integration across Search, Chrome, Android, and Workspace products. There is speculation around new AI-powered tools for video generation, editing, and productivity enhancements.



Android 17 and XR devices may be unveiled

Android 17 is another major area of focus at the event. Expected features include AI-powered booking tools, improved voice-to-text capabilities, autofill upgrades, and refreshed Android Auto visuals.

Google may also provide updates on Android XR and its smart glasses ecosystem. Reports indicate that wearable devices and mixed-reality projects developed with partners could be previewed during the keynote.

Hardware and ecosystem updates likely
