After two days of warm and humid conditions, the weather across West Bengal shifted on Sunday morning with overcast skies and gusty winds. As forecast by the Alipore Meteorological Department, dark clouds covered the sky since early hours, signalling a change in weather patterns. The department has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall in several parts of the state, including Kolkata, continuing till Thursday.
According to the forecast, the state may witness rain in two phases between Sunday and Thursday. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in isolated areas on Sunday and Monday. However, the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase from Tuesday onwards. The weather office has also warned of possible hailstorms along with nor’westers during this period. A drop in temperature by three to four degrees Celsius is also expected due to these conditions.

Weather systems influencing change
Meteorologists have attributed the shift to multiple factors. Increased moisture incursion due to western disturbances is likely to raise humidity levels. At the same time, the formation of cyclonic circulation and a trough over Gangetic West Bengal around Monday and Tuesday may further trigger widespread rainfall across the state.
District-wise forecast for South Bengal
From Monday to Thursday, all districts of South Bengal are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds. Nor’wester activity is likely on Tuesday in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum and Murshidabad. Similar conditions may prevail on Wednesday in Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, East Bardhaman and Nadia.
