Metro services on the Blue Line were briefly disrupted on Saturday after an alleged suicide attempt at Kalighat Metro Station around 1:06 PM. According to metro authorities, a passenger reportedly jumped onto the tracks just as a train was entering the up line at the station. In response, officials immediately cut off power to the third rail and initiated emergency rescue operations.
Services partially suspended
During the disruption, trains were operated in two separate stretches from Maidan to Dakshineswar and from Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Shahid Khudiram. Several trains were halted at consecutive stations, causing inconvenience to passengers during the afternoon hours.

The Blue Line, one of Kolkata Metro’s most vital corridors, serves as a major north-south lifeline for the city. Known for its reliability and high frequency, the route remains heavily crowded throughout the day, not just during peak office hours.
Metro authorities worked swiftly to restore operations. A little after 1:30 PM, an official announcement confirmed that full services on the Blue Line had resumed from 1:29 PM.
