West Bengal is likely to witness another shift in weather conditions over the next few days. While South Bengal may see the return of intense heat and humidity from Tuesday, North Bengal is gradually moving towards a wetter spell under the influence of a cyclonic circulation.
According to the weather department, moisture-laden winds are entering the state due to the active cyclonic circulation over North Bengal. This has increased the possibility of rainfall in several northern districts, while parts of South Bengal are still expected to experience thunderstorms before the heat strengthens again.
Kolkata may see rain and thunderstorms today
Kolkata woke up to comparatively pleasant weather on Sunday morning, offering temporary relief from the recent heat. However, the comfort may not last through the day as humidity levels are expected to rise gradually.
The weather office has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the city from Sunday afternoon onwards. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 kmph may also occur in some areas.

On Sunday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 23.2 degrees Celsius, which is 3.6 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature stood at 33.6 degrees Celsius, around 2.1 degrees below the seasonal average.
Thunderstorm alert across several South Bengal districts
Several districts in South Bengal are likely to experience Kalbaishakhi conditions on Sunday. Thunderstorms along with rain are expected in Bankura, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, North 24 Parganas and Hooghly.
The weather department has also warned of gusty winds blowing at speeds between 40 and 50 kmph in Kolkata and nearby districts. Rainfall accompanied by thunder activity is also likely in many areas.
/ANI From Monday, thunderstorm activity across South Bengal may reduce slightly. Still, districts such as East Midnapore, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas could continue receiving rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds.

Heavy rain warning issued for parts of North Bengal
In North Bengal, Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur are likely to witness scattered thunderstorms on Sunday. Wind speeds may touch 40 to 50 kmph during storm activity.
While the intensity of thunderstorms may reduce on Monday, the weather department has issued a heavy rain warning for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri from Tuesday onwards.
