Weather in West Bengal will change after several days of rains and storms as according to the forecast from India Meteorological Department (IMD), there will be an increase in temperature and humidity levels in many districts of West Bengal.

According to forecast, rains will subside in south Bengal region from Monday and thus chances of any weather relief to people living in cities such as Kolkata are unlikely.

Meteorologists have warned that the combination of rising temperatures and high moisture levels in the atmosphere could make conditions increasingly uncomfortable over the coming days.

Temperatures likely to rise across South Bengal

The IMD has predicted that maximum temperatures across South Bengal could increase by 2C to 4C over the next three days. While isolated light showers may occur in some districts, weather officials said these are unlikely to bring meaningful respite from the heat.

Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and other adjoining districts are expected to experience hot and humid conditions, with discomfort levels remaining high until at least Wednesday morning.

Forecasters have also indicated that the likelihood of strong thunderstorms or severe weather remains low during this period. After the expected rise, temperatures are likely to stabilise and remain relatively unchanged for the following few days.

North Bengal may continue to see scattered storms

While rainfall is also expected to decrease across North Bengal, weather activity is likely to remain more active in the northern districts compared to the southern parts of the state.

From June 2 onwards, districts including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar may witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph.

Despite these developments, temperatures across North Bengal are expected to remain largely stable, helping maintain comparatively pleasant weather conditions.

Relief from storms, but not from discomfort

The reduced intensity of stormy weather is a result of the end of a spell of rains and high wind speeds which occurred in many areas of the state. But this will be followed by another problem as the weather systems are likely to cause high humidity levels in South Bengal.

Meteorologists stated that since there would be no rainfall accompanied by rising temperatures, the weather could become quite humid and sticky. In addition, the IMD has also warned people to keep themselves hydrated and stay away from direct sunlight when it is at its peak because the mercury level will rise.
