Kolkata Metro's Blue Line witnessed two separate suicide attempts within hours on Saturday, disrupting services twice on one of the city's busiest transport corridors.

The latest incident took place at 3:09 pm on the down line at Belgachia Metro station, according to Kolkata Metro. Following the incident, train services were operated between Girish Park and Kavi Subhash (Shahid Khudiram) station, while efforts were underway to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.

The afternoon disruption came just hours after another suicide attempt at Kalighat Metro station, making it the second such incident on the Blue Line on the same day.

Services affected from the start of the day

The day's first disruption occurred early on Saturday morning when a commuter allegedly jumped onto the tracks at Kalighat station.

To carry out the rescue operation safely, power supply to the third rail was switched off, affecting train movement on the route.

During the disruption, Metro services were available between Maidan and Dakshineswar, and between Tollygunge (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar) and Kavi Subhash (Shahid Khudiram). Services between Rabindra Sadan and Rabindra Sarobar remained suspended.

Normal operations resumed at around 7:50 am.

Blue Line among Kolkata Metro's busiest corridors

The Blue Line is one of Kolkata Metro's most heavily used routes, connecting the northern and southern parts of the city. Thousands of commuters rely on it every day as it offers a faster alternative to road travel, avoiding traffic congestion and weather-related delays.

Passenger footfall remains high throughout the day, with trains continuing to witness heavy crowds even during the last services.

However, Saturday's back-to-back incidents brought train movement to a halt twice, causing inconvenience to commuters travelling on the corridor.
