A woman in her sixties was fatally stabbed at Kolkata's Parnasree area on Monday. A former domestic help has been accused of committing the crime, according to the police, PTI reported.
The victim has been identified as Anita Ghosh, also known as Bula. She was found severely wounded at her residence on Becharam Chatterjee Road. Ghosh was taken to a private hospital, where she was declared brought-dead, the police informed.
Accused and motive behind the attack
The accused has been identified as Sanju Sarkar (34). A resident of Purba Barisha, Sarkar had worked at Ghosh's residence as a domestic help two years ago. The accused was primarily detained by the police, and was subsequently arrested after she confessed to the crime, a senior police officer told PTI.
"She allegedly went to the house around 8.30 AM and demanded money. When the victim refused, an altercation followed, during which the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries," the police officer informed.

The husband of the victim is bedridden due to serious illness and was reportedly in a room adjoining the one where his wife was murdered. The son of the couple resides separately, the officer said.
Loot after murder and police action
A loot followed the homicide, as the accused purportedly took gold ornaments and cash from the house, the officer informed. He added that the neighbours were alerted by the cries of the victim, following which they rushed into the apartment and caught hold of the accused. The police were informed after that.

Following the arrival of the police, the accused was taken to Parnasree Police Station, where she confessed to her crime during interrogation, the officer informed.
