An ex-boyfriend has been arrested on charges of raping his ex-girlfriend after a house party in East Kolkata’s Anandapur area, following allegations of sexual assault, intimidation, and threats to maintain silence.
Police say that the survivor, a young college student, was allegedly assaulted after being invited to a party at a friend’s rented house. One of her close acquaintances, identified as Koushik Mondal, has been taken into custody in connection with the case.

Survivor alleges assault after house party
According to police sources, the incident took place a few months ago when the survivor attended a gathering with her college friends at a rented house in Anandapur, where one of their friends was residing. Mondal, a former student of the same south Kolkata college, was also present at the party. The survivor, who is still pursuing her studies at the college, is a resident of Barasat in North 24 Parganas, while the accused hails from Seharakuri under Mohammad Bazar Police Station in Birbhum district.
The survivor alleged that alcohol was consumed throughout the night and that she became intoxicated after alcohol was mixed with a cold drink. While other friends were reportedly in separate rooms, the accused allegedly took her into another room and raped her. She further stated that she felt physically unwell and mentally distressed after the incident.
Threats, FIR and arrest
According to the complaint, the accused later threatened the survivor and warned her against disclosing the assault. After returning home, she struggled with trauma and eventually informed her parents about the incident. Based on her complaint, a Zero FIR was registered at Barasat Women Police Station on October 28, 2025, under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

As the alleged crime occurred within the jurisdiction of Anandapur Police Station, the case was transferred and registered there as Anandapur P.S. Case No. 342 dated November 8, 2025, under Sections 376, 506, and 34 IPC.
During the investigation, police conducted a raid in Birbhum district and arrested Koushik Mondal on January 6, 2026, from outside his residence after completing legal formalities. He was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody till January 9, 2026. Police said further investigation is underway.
