Singur is in the news again. On December 24, 2025, just before Christmas, the cabinet headed by Mamata Banerjee gave its nod to a new project in Singur with an investment of ₹500 crore. This approval has come nearly 14 years after Tata withdrew its Nano car project from the area amid widespread protests led by Mamata Banerjee.
Warehouse project moves forward
The given nod is for establishing a warehouse on 11.35 acres of land at Singur on 99 years' lease. Nahar Industrial Enterprises Limited will invest in and manage the project. Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said the warehouse will facilitate smooth e-commerce operations within the state, which, in turn, may benefit companies such as Amazon and Flipkart.
From Tata Nano to new investments
The industrial journey of Singur has been quite eventful. In 2008, under the then Left Front regime headed by Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Tata shifted its Nano car project out of the state as Mamata's protests were picking up steam. Over the years, the political dynamics have altered and the Trinamool Congress is now in power, ushering in fresh industrial investment proposals in the same region.
Power sector expansion
But besides Singur, the cabinet gave a seal to fresh proposals in the state's power sector. As electricity demand grows, the state government has cleared a plan for an1,600 MW super-critical thermal power plant in a public-private-partnership model.

Development of Dairying and Industry
The cabinet cleared the merger of Mother Dairy Kolkata and Bangla Dairy, to be henceforth known as ‘Bangla Dairy’, once all formalities and paperwork are completed. Further, the second phase of the James and Jewellery Park saw an allotment of 0.5 acres in Ankurrhat, Howrah. Land allotments for new industrial parks were also made at various locations within the state by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation.
These clearances mark the restarting of industrial and infrastructural growth in Singur and beyond in West Bengal, signalling a different direction in the state's developmental roadmap for several years to come.
