Several Hindutva organisations, including the BJP, have taken to the streets across the state in protest against the brutal murder of Hindu youth Dipu Das in Bangladesh. On Wednesday morning, the BJP organised a procession in Howrah. During the procession, scuffles broke out between BJP workers and supporters with the police. It is claimed that BJP state secretary Umesh Roy was injured.
On Wednesday morning, BJP supporters started a procession from Gulmohar Maidan in Howrah towards Howrah Bridge. Howrah City Police first set up barricades about 100 meters away from Howrah Bridge to stop the BJP supporters. A large number of police forces were deployed. An attempt was made to stop the BJP supporters near the barricades. But the supporters moved forward to return towards Howrah Bridge. BJP state secretary Umesh Roy said, "While crossing the barricade, the police pushed me from behind. As a result, my leg bone broke." He was taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
