After laying the foundation stone for a 'Babri Masjid' in Murshidabad's Beldanga, suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has now declared that he is planning for an alliance with Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM in the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections, to be held in the summer of 2026.
Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for the mosque yesterday, marking the date when the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya took place, on December 6, 1992.

Trinamool fires back
Trinamool Congress spokesperson and Kolkata Municipal Corporation councillor Arup Chakraborty retorted to Humayun Kabir's alliance statement. He told News Ei Samay, "Just like we can get spinach for cheap rates in the markets now and the shopkeepers don't give a cash-memo for spinach worth ₹5, similarly we don't pay any heed to comments made by Humayun Kabir."
He added, "If Humayun Kabir had the gall...he contested the 2019 elections on a BJP ticket and nearly lost his deposit. He didn't just lose the elections back then, he lost terribly. Mamata Banerjee had made him a minister back in 2012, still he lost the elections, even in bypolls."
Chakraborty further said, "No one votes for Humayun Kabir. People vote for Mamata Banerjee. They vote on Trinamool's symbol. Whether Humayun Kabir wants to contest on 135 seats, or 235 seats, or 294 seats - that's his personal choice, any could fight any number of seats in a democratic setup. However much seats he contests on, he will forfeit deposits in all of them."
