US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held what the White House described as a "productive" conversation earlier this week, even as a report claimed billionaire Elon Musk was also present on the call.

'Productive' call amid West Asia tensions

The conversation comes against the backdrop of the ongoing US-Iran conflict in West Asia. According to the White House, the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in the region and broader concerns linked to stability.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that President Trump shares a strong working relationship with Prime Minister Modi and described the exchange as "productive". The call marks the first direct interaction between the two leaders since the conflict escalated on February 28.

India stresses Hormuz stability

Following the call, PM Modi shared details of the discussion on X. He said both sides emphasised the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz "open, secure and accessible", calling it vital for global peace and economic stability.

"Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest," Modi said in his post. He added that both leaders agreed to stay in touch on efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.

Musk's presence raises questions

A report by The New York Times, citing unnamed US officials, claimed that Elon Musk joined the call on Tuesday. This is seen as a rare instance of a private individual being part of a conversation between two heads of state during a geopolitical crisis.

The report suggested that Musk's presence could indicate improved ties with Trump following a reported fallout last year after he exited an administrative role focused on reducing the federal workforce.

However, it remains unclear why Musk was included in the call or whether he actively participated in the discussion.

The conversation highlights India’s consistent position on de-escalation and diplomatic resolution, especially at a time when tensions in West Asia continue to impact global energy routes and security dynamics.
