Despite the fact that US President Donald Trump has put on hold offensive operations against Iran until April 6, it is evident that the US has greatly enlarged its military presence in key maritime zones, indicating its willingness to escalate tensions in the region.

According to a report published by Hindustan Times, it is evident that the US has deployed a massive naval armada consisting of three aircraft carriers, an assault group, and several support vessels in the Mediterranean Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean.

Armada positioned across strategic waters

The aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford is currently deployed in the Mediterranean Sea with its strike group, while USS George H.W. Bush is deployed off the coast of Gibraltar. The USS Abraham Lincoln is deployed in an area near the Gulf of Oman in the Arabian Sea.

Additionally, an amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and USS New Orleans, with almost 4,000 Marine personnel on board, have also been deployed in the Southern Indian Ocean Region.

Support vessels, including USS Alan Shepard, Ocean Titan and John L. Canley, are located near the Malacca Strait, ready to provide logistics and surveillance support, the report said.

Military build-up signals readiness despite pause

Despite this temporary halt in strikes, the magnitude of deployment shows that they are gearing up for the next phase of war. This is because the US Central Command is said to be waiting for further instructions.

There are reports coming out of Washington that they could deploy up to 10,000 troops in the Persian Gulf if need be, especially to ensure that they can sail through the Strait of Hormuz.

The US has also deployed at least 11 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers in the region, together with over 1,000 aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers.

Rising tensions with Iran and Gulf stakes

The military build-up comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and Gulf nations, many of which have accused Tehran of targeting critical oil and defence infrastructure.

According to the Hindustan Times report, Gulf countries are pressing for stronger US intervention. Any delay in action, analysts suggest, could push regional powers to pursue independent security measures.

At the same time, US naval forces, including nuclear-powered fast attack submarines, remain active across the region, targeting strategic positions linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

War far from over

Although negotiations are still open, the positioning of US forces indicates that this war is far from over. Experts interpret this pause as a strategic window rather than a de-escalation.

With naval and air forces already deployed in the region, any shift in policy could spark immediate military action in the Persian Gulf and beyond.
