Details of the fraud
According to the FBI, Patel was part of a wider scheme that operated across the United States between 2017 and 2021. The fraud involved deceiving victims into sending money under false pretences.
"Many victims were contacted via telephone communications and deceived into believing their personal information or identities were associated with criminal activities. They were convinced to send funds, usually in the form of cash and prepaid debit cards, to addresses throughout the United States," the FBI said.

Victims were reportedly pressured into transferring large amounts of money, often through cash payments or prepaid cards, which made the transactions harder to trace.
The FBI has urged the public to come forward with any information that could help locate Patel. Authorities have asked individuals to contact their local FBI office or reach out to the nearest American Embassy or Consulate if they have relevant details.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue efforts to trace Patel and bring him into custody.
