Madhya Pradesh: 8-year-old critical after mother 'pushes her onto tracks', stops bystanders from helping

A woman allegedly pushed her 8-year-old daughter onto Railway tracks at Narmadapuram station, leaving her critically injured.

A disturbing incident was reported at Narmadapuram Railway Station in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. A government-employed woman allegedly pushed her eight-year-old daughter onto the tracks as the Tamil Nadu Express arrived at Platform No. 1 around 7.40 pm. The incident was captured on CCTV.

The child was struck by the engine and became trapped in the narrow gap between the platform and the tracks. Once the train moved past, the Railway staff and bystanders pulled her out immediately and rushed her to hospital.

Child's condition remains critical

As per the report of Times of India, the girl sustained injuries to her head, waist, and shoulder, along with heavy blood loss. She was initially treated at the district hospital and placed on ventilator support. Her condition worsened, and doctors transferred her to Bhopal for further care where she remains in a critical state.

According to the report of Times of India, Sanjeev Chaukse, in-charge of Narmadapuram GRP, confirmed that the mother and daughter were waiting at the platform for close to three hours before the incident occurred.

He said, "When the Tamil Nadu Express approached Platform No. 1 around 7.40 pm, the woman suddenly pushed the child onto the tracks."

"The girl was hit by the engine and got stuck between the platform and the tracks. She suffered multiple injuries and must have endured immense pain. We only hope she recovers," he further added.

Several witnesses said the woman actively discouraged people from assisting her injured daughter. When bystanders moved to intervene, the mother repeatedly asked them not to save the child.

Background and investigation

The family had faced hardship. The woman's husband had passed away. After that she received a compensatory government appointment. The two lived together alone. The girl was a Class II student, Times of India further added.

The in-charge of Narmadapuram GRP also noted that the mother had been receiving medical treatment for several years. Police have registered a case. A mental health angle is being explored, and authorities are currently verifying her medical history. Family members have been notified.
