A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck near Silver Springs, Nevada, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The tremor occurred at a depth of 9 km (5.59 miles), sending noticeable vibrations across surrounding areas. There were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties, reported Hindustan Times.
California tremors felt across regions
In a separate incident, another earthquake shook parts of California. Initially recorded at magnitude 5.1, it was later revised to 4.9 by the USGS. The quake struck about a kilometre east southeast of Boulder Creek, California at a depth of 10.9 km.

Tremors were widely felt, including in San Jose. Residents took to social media to describe the intensity.
"Felt it in South San Jose near Los Gatos border shook my building hella hard," a California resident said on social media platform X after the earthquake.
"5.1 quake in San Jose was the strongest I felt since the one in 2010," another user wrote.
Powerful quake triggers damage in Indonesia
Meanwhile, a strong undersea earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck northern Indonesia, causing panic and structural damage. The tremors, lasting between 10 to 20 seconds, forced residents to flee their homes.
The quake impacted areas including Bitung and Ternate, located near the Molucca Sea where the earthquake was centered, per HT. Initial reports indicated damage ranging from light to severe, including a church and residential buildings.
"We had just woken up and suddenly the earthquake hit... we all ran out of the house," Associated Press news agency quoted Bitung resident Marten Mandagi. "The shaking was very strong."
Authorities confirmed that a 70-year-old woman died in a building collapse in Manado, while another person was injured, HT reported.

At least three others were hospitalised in Ternate. Rescue teams continue to assess the damage as visuals show collapsed structures and people gathering outdoors for safety.
