Shooting in Baghajatin

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Dey, who was shot during clashes in South Kolkata's Baghajatin area on Wednesday (March 25) night. Another individual, Jeet Mukherjee, was injured in the same incident and is currently undergoing treatment.

According to local accounts, residents heard gunshots late at night and informed the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they found both men lying injured.

Police have since detained four individuals linked to the case. However, it remains unclear whether the incident was politically motivated or the result of a clash between groups.

Local concerns and investigation

Residents in the area have raised concerns about the background of those involved. Locals claimed that the deceased, the injured person, and those arrested had a criminal history.

Trinamool Congress candidate from Jadavpur, Debabrata Majumdar, visited the site after the incident. He requested that police seal an under-construction building located near the spot where the shooting took place.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact sequence of events leading to the clash.

Separately, tensions were also reported from Basanti in South 24-Parganas district. During a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally, clashes broke out, allegedly involving local Trinamool Congress workers.
