As India marks its 77th Republic Day today, Google also joined in the celebrations by dedicating a space-themed doodle. Through its new drawing, Google shined a spotlight on the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), highlighting the space agency's ambitious projects.

The doodle showcases satellite imagery, orbital paths, rocket launch, India's Tricolour and other space-themed images to create the lettering on the word "GOOGLE", thus offering an artistic representation of ISRO's growing presence in outer space. Although Google did not provide a written explanation of the doodle itself, the use of graphic design clearly conveyed the message and the theme of the doodle.

It is likely that Google was making reference to ISRO's major space missions, such as Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan, both of which have resulted in consistent international press attention for ISRO.

The tribute

Google's artwork arrived at a time as ISRO ramps up operations ahead of an intense launch campaign for the year 2026. According to ISRO Chief V Narayanan, many satellite launches will occur in 2026 and are currently being prepared for.

The 2025 doodle

The Google doodle celebrating India's Republic Day for 2025 featured India's biodiversity designed by Pune-based artist Rohan Dahotre. The art illustrated animals from different parts of the country, including a peacock, crocodile, snow leopard, tiger and antelope, reflecting the ecological richness of the country. In comparison, the design for Google's Republic Day Doodle in 2026 reflected a change in focus from biological or environmental abundance to scientific and technological aspirations.
