Late-night SpiceJet operations from Mumbai descended into chaos, with prolonged delays and cancellations stranding passengers headed to Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Some of the worst-affected were passengers on SpiceJet’s late-night flights to Bengaluru, which departed after a delay of nearly nine hours. Late-night flights to Delhi were eventually cancelled, along with a daytime flight to Gorakhpur. A night flight to Ahmedabad departed around three hours behind schedule, according to The Times of India.

Flight SG 874 of SpiceJet was scheduled to depart at 1:55 am, with passengers arriving at the airport as early as midnight.

Flyers share grievances online

“What the hell is wrong with SpiceJet flights! Been waiting at Mumbai T1 airport since yesterday midnight (sic) and the flight keeps getting delayed!!,” wrote a user in a post on X at 8:50 am. She reportedly shared a photograph of her boarding pass showing the revised departure time as 7:45 am.

The image shows a cluster of stranded passengers waiting near a departure gate, with a passenger coach visible beyond the airport’s glass facade. Several other posts on social media showed frustrated flyers arguing with airline ground staff.

Complaints about SpiceJet delays are a recurring theme online. Passengers on the Bengaluru flight were not the only ones affected, as many others also spent a sleepless night at Mumbai airport.

On Thursday morning, another person posted, “Worst experience with @flyspicejet. SG 164 cancelled after hours of delay, zero support at the airport, broken refund link.” She was referring to the Mumbai-Delhi Wednesday 11:15 pm flight, which was delayed and eventually cancelled. She added that she had to pay ₹15,000 to book a new flight but received no response from the airline.
