Passengers travelling on an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Kolkata faced a tense situation after the aircraft reportedly experienced a sudden electrical failure mid-air.

The incident allegedly caused the cabin lights and air conditioning system to stop functioning for around 30 minutes, leaving many travellers anxious during the journey.

The lights and air conditioning stopped mid-flight

The disruption reportedly occurred while the flight was airborne, leading to darkness inside the cabin and loss of cooling. Passengers said the cabin became uncomfortable as the air conditioning system stopped working during the blackout.

Several travellers were seen using mobile phone flashlights after the cabin lights went out. Videos circulating online showed dim conditions inside the aircraft, with passengers appearing worried as they waited for updates from the crew.

Reports said the situation lasted for nearly 30 minutes before systems were gradually restored. During that period, passengers allegedly faced difficulty due to rising cabin temperatures and a lack of proper communication.

One passenger said that people inside the aircraft were “panicking” as both the lights and cooling systems stopped functioning. Another traveller reportedly claimed that some passengers, including children and elderly people, appeared distressed during the incident, according to Times Now.

Despite the disruption, the aircraft continued its journey and later landed safely at its destination without any reported injuries.

Airline responds to the incident

IndiGo later issued a statement regarding the incident and said the flight experienced a “temporary technical issue.” The airline added that standard operating procedures were followed by the crew during the flight, as per Times Now reports.

According to the airline, the systems were restored after troubleshooting efforts onboard. IndiGo also said passenger safety was never compromised during the journey.
