Japan is preparing to launch a one-of-a-kind airport experience for Pokémon fans. Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture will temporarily reopen as “Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport” from July 7, 2026, making it the first airport in the world to officially carry the Pokémon name.

The themed airport will remain operational under the special branding until September 2029. The initiative is part of wider efforts to revive tourism and support recovery in the Noto region after the devastating 2024 earthquake.

A Pokémon-themed airport experience

As per Travel+Leisure, the airport will feature decorations inspired by Flying-type Pokémon throughout the terminal. Visitors will spot Pokémon-themed artwork, murals, and displays across entrances, boarding bridges, walls, and signboards.

One of the main attractions inside the airport will be a giant floating Pikachu paired with an aeroplane balloon in the second-floor atrium. Flying-type Pokémon will surround the installation, creating a large centrepiece for travellers and fans.

Officials have also confirmed that all 111 Flying-type Pokémon discovered so far will appear across different sections of the airport.

Recovery efforts linked to the project

The transformation is closely tied to recovery initiatives in Ishikawa Prefecture following the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024. The Pokémon With You Foundation and local authorities have been working together to encourage tourism and bring visitors back to the region.

The first-floor arrival lobby will feature “A Bright Future,” an artwork created in 2024 to support reconstruction efforts in Noto. Pikachu, Plusle and Minun from the artwork will also appear as three-dimensional monuments welcoming passengers.

Ishikawa Governor Yukiyoshi Yamano said, “I want to give children in Noto an exciting experience and energise them as much as possible.”

Exclusive merchandise and themed attractions

The airport will also introduce exclusive Pokémon merchandise designed around themes of travel, hope, and Flying-type Pokémon. Items expected to be sold include T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and suitcase belts.

Travellers will also find themed food and drinks inside the airport. Reports suggest special sightseeing buses and additional tourism experiences are being planned as part of the collaboration.

An original animated show for visitors will also be available on smartphones while inside the airport. One confirmed episode is titled “Fly, Bagon!” and follows the Pokémon Bagon as it trains beneath a Salamence monument located at the airport.
