Actress Celina Jaitly has been struggling to come to terms with the detention of her brother in the United Arab Emirates for years, amid various developments in her personal life. She has repeatedly taken to social media to raise the issue. This time, her appeal is directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a television channel interview, the actress appealed to the Prime Minister to intervene in her brother Major (Retired) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly’s case. With tears in her eyes, Celina urged to bring back the soldier. Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, a former special forces officer of the Indian Army, was detained in the UAE in September 2024 and has remained imprisoned there since then.
Delhi High Court steps in
Celina’s appeal comes at a time when the Delhi High Court has also intervened in the matter. On Tuesday, the court directed the Ministry of External Affairs to provide legal assistance regarding Major Vikrant. An organisation in the United Arab Emirates has been authorised to represent him.
This court directive is being seen as a major relief for Celina, who has been waiting for her brother’s return to the country for the past 18 months.
Questions over charges and delayed justice
In the interview, Celina revealed that she has not been able to speak with her brother for a long time. She raised questions about the transparency of the charges brought against him and expressed concern over delayed justice. “A soldier of our country is in a foreign jail without prosecution. Why should we delay legal aid any further?” she said.

Appealing directly to the Prime Minister, the actress added, “My request to Modiji is to please bring this soldier back. He has given his entire youth to the nation. If he had done something wrong, there would have been a prosecution by now.”
