Sequel follows blockbuster success
The first film in the series, Dhurandhar, was released in December and went on to become a major box-office success. The action thriller follows an Indian intelligence operative who infiltrates the criminal and political networks of Karachi.
The storyline draws inspiration from real-world geopolitical developments, including the ICā814 hijacking, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, and the 2008 Mumbai attacks. According to trade reports, the film collected over ā¹1,300 crore worldwide and became the first Bollywood production to cross ā¹1,000 crore at the domestic box office.
Advance bookings surge before release
The sequel is set for release on March 19 and has already received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Advance bookings and paid previews have reportedly shown strong demand, with close to 10 lakh tickets sold ahead of the release. Apart from Singh, the film features R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and Sara Arjun in key roles.
The spy thriller will release in five languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
The film was initially expected to clash with Toxic, starring Yash, but the latter has now been postponed to June. However, Dhurandhar: The Revenge will still face competition from Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Pawan Kalyan, which is also releasing on March 19.
