He failed to surrender after the bail period expired. In addition, the Delhi High Court upheld the conviction in July 2011.
After escaping custody, the convict remained at large, travelling through various states, including Haryana. Before reaching Ghaziabad, Salim worked as an almirah maker in both Karnal and Ambala.
In the year 2010, he finally moved to Loni in Ghaziabad. Here, he adopted a new identity and became known as Salim Wastik, alias Salim Ahmed. In Loni, he operated a ladies' dress shop in Nasbandi Colony.
How Delhi Police caught him
After many years, it came time for them to do what the Delhi Police had to do, i.e., keep tabs on the people who committed this crime and take them into custody. The Head Constable, Mintu Yadav, was informed of Salim Khan, a famous YouTuber, who was part of the kidnapping, murder, and extortion in a case that is 31 years old. In addition to this, it was found out that he had declared himself legally dead even before the law could do anything.
In order to catch him, they started looking for information, and he was soon arrested with the help of Delhi Police Crime Branch and the Ghaziabad Police.
