Stone pelting during Bengaluru chariot procession leaves one child dead

A child and a minor girl were injured after being hit on the head by stones during the incident.

Tension erupted in Bengaluru on Sunday night after stones were allegedly thrown at devotees during a religious chariot procession in the JJ Nagar police station area.

According to police, the chariot procession began at around 8 pm from the Om Shakti temple in Jagjivan Ram Nagar, near VS Garden. Devotees were pulling the chariot carrying the deity when unidentified miscreants allegedly started pelting stones at the procession.

Sources claimed that a child and a minor girl were injured after being hit on the head by stones during the incident. It has also been alleged that the child later died due to the injuries sustained in the stone pelting. Police have not officially confirmed the cause of death.

The injured children were rushed to a hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

The incident led to heightened tension in the locality. Devotees alleged that the stone pelting was carried out by unidentified individuals from the cover of darkness with the intent to create unrest.

Following the incident, a group of devotees staged a protest outside the JJ Nagar police station, demanding immediate action against those responsible.

Police said an FIR has been registered and an investigation is underway. Security has been strengthened in the area to prevent further disturbances. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West Division) Yatish NB visited the police station to assess the situation.

Police officials said that action will be taken once the miscreants involved in the incident are identified.
