Indian Railways announces 900+ summer trains to reduce rush, improve travel, and help passengers get confirmed seats

Planning a summer trip but worried about train ticket availability? There’s good news for passengers as Indian Railways gears up to handle the seasonal rush with a major expansion in services. The move comes as travel demand spikes between April and July due to holidays and vacations.

In order to make travel easier, Indian Railways has announced many special trains. This will help reduce waiting lists and make it easier for people to get confirmed tickets during busy months.

This decision shows good planning to handle more passengers while keeping strong connections between different parts of the country.

Total number of trains and trips

According to Times of India report, from April 15 to July 15, 2026, Indian Railways has approved 908 summer special trains. These trains will run 18,262 trips in total, helping more people get seats during the busy travel season.

Services already open for booking

As per Times of India reports, out of the total, 660 trains have already been announced, covering 11,294 trips. This means many of these trains are already open for booking, so passengers can plan their journeys in advance.

Zone-wise distribution of trains

As per Times of India reports, South Central Railway has approved 124 trains (1,184 trips), out of which 76 are already announced. Western Railway comes next with 106 trains (2,078 trips), while North Western Railway has approved 76 trains (2,245 trips). Northern Railway and Central Railway have also approved 76 and 74 trains, and most of these are already open for booking.

Other key railway zones

Southern Railway has approved 72 trains, East Central Railway 64, and North Central Railway 54 trains. North Eastern Railway has sanctioned 52 trains, while East Coast and West Central Railways have approved 28 trains each. Eastern Railway, North Frontier Railway, and South Eastern Railway have also contributed with smaller but significant numbers.
