Two men were arrested for attempting to kill a man in southwest Delhi’s Chhawla area after a firearm malfunction prevented what could have been a fatal shooting. The incident has once again raised concerns over rising gun-related crimes in the capital.
Gun fails during point-blank attack
According to The Times of India, the incident took place on April 17 in Shyam Vihar Phase 2. The accused arrived on a motorcycle and targeted the complainant in what appeared to be a planned attack.
One of the assailants pulled out a pistol and attempted to fire at close range. However, the weapon failed to discharge, allowing the victim to escape without injury. Investigators believe the malfunction played a crucial role in preventing a possible murder.
Accused tracked and arrested
The two suspects, identified as Rocky (22) and Sumit (24), were apprehended on April 19 following a search operation in the area. Police teams intercepted them, but the situation quickly escalated during the arrest. Officials said one of the accused opened fire at the police team. A bullet struck a policeman’s bulletproof vest, preventing serious injury. The accused was then shot in the leg and overpowered, while the second suspect was arrested on the spot.

Weapons and evidence recovered
Police recovered firearms, live cartridges, and the motorcycle used during the attempted attack. A fresh case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the crime and whether the accused were involved in other incidents.
