A 65-year-old woman was burnt to death after a fire broke out at her house in southeast Delhi’s Badarpur area, police said.

The incident occurred in the Molarband locality on Saturday evening and triggered a police response after a PCR call reported the blaze. According to officials, the fire broke out in the rooftop bathroom of the house. Police and emergency responders rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. When they reached the location, they found that a fire had already spread in the bathroom area on the rooftop of the building. Inside the bathroom, authorities discovered the charred body of the woman. She was later identified as Veenu Singh, a resident of the house. Police confirmed that the victim died at the scene before any medical help could be provided.

Police suspect bidi lighting may have triggered blaze
Preliminary investigation suggests the fire may have started when the woman tried to light a bidi using a matchstick. Police suspect the flames may have accidentally spread, leading to the fatal incident. Officials said the exact cause of the fire is still being examined, and further investigation is underway. Authorities are also looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident to rule out any other possible factors.
