The tragedy unfolded on April 18 in The Woodlands, Texas, during the opening 3.8 km swim segment of the race. Araújo reportedly went underwater and failed to resurface, prompting an immediate search operation.

Emergency responders, including divers, recovered her body nearly 90 minutes later.
