Novak Djokovic may be away from the court due to injury, but his dominance in men’s tennis remains intact. The Serbian star has withdrawn from the upcoming Madrid Open, extending his spell on the sidelines. Yet, even in his absence, Djokovic has created history by maintaining his position in the ATP rankings during an era increasingly ruled by younger stars.

Djokovic breaks Federer’s long-standing ATP record

Despite not playing in recent weeks, Djokovic continues to hold the World No. 4 spot with 4,710 points. He stays ahead of Felix Auger-Aliassime, while Alexander Zverev occupies the third position. The top two spots are held by Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, respectively.

By retaining his place in the top five, Djokovic has now completed 860 consecutive weeks inside the ATP top five, the longest streak in history since rankings were introduced in 1973. In doing so, he surpasses Roger Federer, who previously held the record with 859 weeks. The milestone underlines Djokovic’s remarkable consistency and longevity at the elite level.

Return timeline remains uncertain amid injury recovery

Djokovic’s withdrawal from Madrid has cast doubt over his immediate return. He has acknowledged that he is still recovering, making his comeback timeline unclear. However, there remains a possibility that he could feature in the Italian Open if his fitness improves.
