Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday emphasised the unifying power of cinema, stating that films have the ability to connect people across cultures while creating opportunities for emerging artists.
Cinema seen as bridge for culture and talent
According to Hindustan Times, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta made these remarks during the “Night of Honors” at the Delhi International Film Festival 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam. Gupta described the festival as a significant step towards establishing Delhi as a global hub for culture and cinema.
Festival aims to boost Delhi’s global creative identity
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Taranjeet Singh Sandhu said the festival goes beyond being just an event and marks the beginning of a broader cultural movement. He added that storytelling rooted in India has the potential to resonate with global audiences, and such platforms can help showcase it worldwide.

Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra also highlighted the government’s vision to develop Delhi into a centre for creativity and innovation. This year’s festival featured Spain as the focus country and was organised in collaboration with the Singapore International Film Festival.

MoU signed to promote film tourism
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Delhi Tourism and Prasar Bharati to promote film tourism and expand broadcasting opportunities. The festival, which aims to strengthen Delhi’s position on the global cinema map, is set to conclude on March 31. With strong backing from the government and international collaborations, the Delhi International Film Festival is emerging as a key platform to promote Indian storytelling and boost the city’s cultural footprint globally.
