A 21-year-old man was stabbed and robbed of Rs 3 lakh in broad daylight on Monday in Pandua, Hooghly, triggering panic in the area. The victim, identified as Somnath Baul Das, is a resident of Votgram under Jamgram Mandlai Gram Panchayat.
According to police and family sources, the incident took place on a deserted road in Sarai village when Somnath was returning home after withdrawing cash from a nationalised bank near Pandua Kalnamo. The money was reportedly meant for a Harinam Sankirtan programme at his residence.

Attack on isolated road
As per initial reports, four miscreants riding two motorcycles intercepted Somnath on his way back. He was allegedly hit forcefully on the back of his head, causing him to lose control. The attackers then stabbed him in the hand with a knife.
Due to the assault, Somnath fell off his scooter. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly looted Rs 3 lakh kept in the scooter and fled the spot. The incident occurred in broad daylight, raising concerns over safety in the area.
Victim rescued, probe underway
Local residents rushed to the spot after the attack and rescued Somnath in a critical condition. He was immediately taken to Pandua Rural Hospital, where he received treatment.
Police reached the location soon after being informed and have started an investigation. A search operation is currently underway to trace and arrest the accused persons involved in the robbery.

Speaking about the incident, Somnath’s uncle Ashok Baul Das said that a Harinam Sankirtan programme is organised at their home every year, where Narnarayan seva is performed. He added that preparations had been made this year as well, and the money was withdrawn for the same purpose.
He urged the authorities to take swift action and ensure that those responsible are arrested at the earliest.
