Rajasthan Royals delivered a statement performance to kick off their IPL 2026 campaign, dismantling Chennai Super Kings in a one-sided contest that quickly turned into a showcase of dominance. Chasing a modest 128, Rajasthan made a mockery of the target, cruising home in just 12.1 overs with eight wickets in hand. The ease of the chase, completed with 47 balls remaining, underlined the gulf between the two sides on the night. What looked like a competitive total from Chennai dissolved rapidly under relentless attacking cricket, as Rajasthan signaled early that they are here to dictate terms this season.

Vaibhav’s blitz turns powerplay into a knockout punch

The spotlight firmly belonged to 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, whose explosive innings effectively sealed the match inside the powerplay. On a sluggish surface where timing wasn’t expected to be easy, the young batter played with astonishing fearlessness. He smashed a breathtaking 52 off just 17 balls, bringing up his half-century in only 15 deliveries. With four boundaries and five sixes at a staggering strike rate above 300, Vaibhav turned the chase into a spectacle.

While Yashasvi Jaiswal played the perfect supporting role, anchoring the innings with composure, it was Vaibhav’s relentless assault that broke Chennai’s resistance. Rajasthan raced to 74 without loss in the powerplay, virtually ending the contest then and there. Jaiswal stayed unbeaten on 38, calmly guiding the team home as the rest became a formality.

CSK collapse exposes batting frailties

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings endured a batting collapse that left them with little chance of defending the total. After being put in to bat, they crumbled to 82 for 8, struggling against disciplined and aggressive bowling. Jamie Overton’s 43 was the only significant contribution, rescuing the innings from complete embarrassment and pushing the total to 127.

Key players failed to deliver, with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Sarfaraz Khan unable to build momentum. Sanju Samson, facing his former side, managed just 6, adding to Chennai’s woes. Rajasthan’s bowling unit, led by Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger with two wickets each, ensured constant pressure. By the time Chennai attempted a recovery, the damage was already irreversible, setting the stage for Vaibhav’s unforgettable night.
