The virtual meeting between the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the chief ministers of various states is likely to take place on Friday. The agenda of this virtual meeting is to discuss the conflict situation in West Asia and its possible implications.
The virtual interaction is expected to focus on ensuring a coordinated national response to the situation, with the Centre highlighting the need for a “Team India” approach to tackle the emerging challenges. However, some chief ministers of the poll-bound states are expected to miss the meeting due to political engagements.

Focus on preparedness and coordination
According to officials, the meeting is intended to discuss major issues that have come up because of the conflict, including global energy markets and inflation.
Recently, in his address to Parliament, Modi had stated that the effects of the conflict could lead to a global energy crisis that could be long-lasting. He asked people to be ready for any possible disruption but assured that the government is doing its best to ensure that the effects of the disruption are minimal on the country.
At the administrative level, the Centre has formed seven empowered groups to keep track of critical areas such as fuel supply, fertilisers, and prices.
India’s strategy: Energy, supply chains, diplomacy
India has begun diversifying its energy sourcing to reduce dependence on traditional suppliers, while ensuring steady availability of essential commodities. Officials said efforts are underway to secure crude oil and gas from alternative markets and maintain uninterrupted supply lines.
The government is also working to safeguard vulnerable sections, including farmers, migrant workers, and low-income households, from any fallout of rising costs or shortages.

Apart from taking internal measures to address the situation in West Asia, India has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting international efforts to resolve the tensions in West Asia.
Political background and attendance
Though the Centre is hoping to receive cooperation from all states in this critical hour, attendance is likely to differ. Leaders of states facing elections might focus more on election-related activities.
Still, it is likely that the Centre will press for consensus-based measures to address economic and logistical challenges.
