Kerala Police’s cyber team has filed a case against X and one account over an AI video. The video is said to have shown the Prime Minister and Election Commission in a misleading way. The issue has come up at a sensitive time as elections are near in Kerala. Officials say such content can influence people negatively and affect the voting process.
As per NDTV reports, police also said the video is still on the platform even after orders to remove it, raising concerns about rules being followed.

Case registered over an AI video
According to NDTV, the case was filed after authorities found the video to be “misleading and defamatory”. The content was flagged through official channels, including the Election Commission of India.
Police said, “Upon verification, it was assessed that the material had the potential to mislead the public, undermine the credibility of constitutional bodies, and adversely impact the conduct of free and fair elections.”
Police said a case has been filed against the X account Laxmi N Raju (@valiant_Raju) and others, including X Corp, at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram late Wednesday night. An investigation has started to find out who is responsible and take action as per the law.
Legal action taken and charges applied
The FIR includes several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita like 352, 336, 353, and 174, along with Section 66C of the Information Technology Act. Police said the video, around 1 minute 17 seconds long, was shared with the intention of disturbing public peace and possibly inciting unrest. Authorities also stated that despite instructions, the platform allowed the content to continue circulating, prompting legal action.
Police act to stop spread the video, issue public warning
Kerala Police said they quickly took steps to stop the video from spreading further, following election rules and legal guidelines.
They warned people, “Members of the public are advised to exercise due caution and refrain from creating, sharing, or amplifying unverified or misleading content, particularly during the election period.”

Police said strict and fair action will be taken against anything that tries to disturb or influence elections. The issue began after CPI(M) raised it on X, sharing a March 19, 2019 EC letter that had the BJP Kerala seal instead of the official EC seal.
The EC said it was “purely a clerical error” and was corrected quickly. It also said the official responsible was suspended. This case shows that AI content can be misused, especially during elections. Authorities are taking stricter steps to control it.
The investigation is going on, and the aim is to punish those responsible and keep elections fair.
