The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested two associates of the Hashim Baba gang, including a wanted shooter involved in a murder case, officials said on Monday. The accused have been identified as Shadab Ahmad alias Shadab Chappal and Mohammad Adi alias Adil, both residents of Jafarabad.
Absconding shooter held after two years
According to The Hindustan Times, Shadab, a listed shooter and nephew of jailed gangster Suhail alias Chappal, had been on the run for the past two years. Acting on specific intelligence, a team apprehended him on April 11 from the Gadi Mendu area near Signature Bridge in northeast Delhi. A loaded semi-automatic pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from his possession.

Linked to 2024 murder case
Shadab was wanted in connection with a 2024 murder case registered at Seelampur police station. Police said that on March 9, 2024, he, along with accomplices, opened fire on two members of the rival Chenu gang on a busy road in Seelampur. One of the victims, Arbaz, died of injuries. Investigators revealed the attack was carried out due to a personal feud involving his uncle while lodged in Mandoli jail. He had also been declared a proclaimed offender in a 2020 attempt to murder case registered at Jafarabad police station.

Second accused held in separate operation
In a separate operation on April 3, the Special Cell arrested Mohammad Adi from northeast Delhi. Police recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol and six live cartridges from his possession. Officials said Adi was allegedly identifying targets for extortion on behalf of jailed gang members. An FIR has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing to trace other members of the network and uncover the full extent of the gang’s activities.
