The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a late but significant tweak to the IPL 2026 schedule, sparking widespread discussion among fans and analysts. One of the key fixtures involving Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT) has undergone a venue swap due to external factors, adding another layer of intrigue to an already dynamic season.
What led to the sudden change
The IPL 2026 schedule has been fluid right from the outset. Initially, only a partial list of 20 matches was released, largely due to overlapping election timelines across multiple states in India.

As polling dates became clearer, the full schedule was eventually locked in. However, fresh developments—particularly municipal elections in Ahmedabad- have forced the BCCI to rethink logistics. Security concerns and administrative priorities during elections played a decisive role in shifting venues, underlining how political scenarios can directly influence sporting calendars.
CSK vs GT fixtures swapped
Originally, CSK were set to face GT on April 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. That afternoon clash has now been relocated to Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, retaining its 3:30 PM start time. In a reciprocal adjustment, the reverse fixture scheduled for May 21 in Chennai will now take place in Ahmedabad as a 7:30 PM evening match. Effectively, the home-and-away fixtures between the two sides have been swapped, while the rest of the IPL schedule remains unchanged.
Current team standings and form
On the field, GT have shown resilience after a shaky start. With two wins in four matches, they currently sit fifth on the points table. Contributions from Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have been instrumental in their recovery.
