Chennai Super Kings has urged supporters not to bring political flags, banners, or posters to the stadium ahead of its crucial IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
The match is extremely important for Chennai Super Kings as the team remains in the race for the IPL playoffs. After 10 matches, CSK has 10 points and is currently placed sixth on the points table. Another defeat could seriously damage the team’s chances of reaching the final four.
Ahead of the game, the franchise appealed to fans to keep the atmosphere inside the stadium focused only on cricket.
CSK asks fans to avoid political symbols
In a social media message posted on Friday, CSK requested supporters not to carry any political material into the stadium.
The franchise said, "Let us come together to enjoy cricket and the spirit of the game. We request everyone not to bring flags, banners, or posters linked to political parties or individuals into the stadium."

The appeal comes at a time when political excitement is high in Tamil Nadu following actor-turned-politician Vijay taking oath as the state’s new Chief Minister. There were concerns that some supporters might arrive at the stadium carrying political symbols or party flags.
The Chennai franchise appears to be trying to avoid any controversy during the high-pressure fixture.
Chepauk has seen similar issues before
This is not the first time political symbolism has triggered discussion around Chepauk Stadium. Earlier in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, confusion arose over whistles inside the stadium.
'Whistle Podu' is one of CSK's most popular slogans, and whistles are closely associated with the franchise's fan culture. However, reports had circulated at the time claiming whistles were being restricted inside the venue.

The issue gained attention because whistles are also linked to the election symbol of Vijay's political party. The matter later led to public debate among fans.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association later clarified that neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India nor the ICC had imposed any whistle ban. According to the association, only certain local police instructions had been issued.
