Inge Lehmann discovers Earth’s inner core (1936)

Danish seismologist Inge Lehmann suggested, on March 29, 1936, that the Earth has an inner solid core. She did this by studying the patterns of earthquake waves. She noticed that some earthquake waves deflected at specific points, which led her to conclude that the Earth had an inner solid core. This theory later formed the basis of geophysics.
