Australia pace spearhead Megan Schutt has confirmed that the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales will be her final ICC tournament, signalling the beginning of the end of a remarkable international career. One of the most successful fast bowlers in women’s cricket history, Schutt said she now wants to help the next generation settle into the Australian setup before eventually stepping away from the global stage.

Schutt reflects on decorated Australian career

Schutt made her debut for Australia women’s national cricket team in 2012 and has since established herself as a key figure in the side’s golden era. The veteran pacer has claimed more than 300 international wickets across formats and played a central role in multiple ICC title-winning campaigns.

The 33-year-old also holds the record for the most wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup history, highlighting her consistency and longevity at the highest level. Over the years, Schutt has been regarded as one of the leaders of Australia’s formidable bowling attack and has remained an important figure in the team’s success.

Despite the achievements, Schutt admitted that Australia’s semi-final exits in the last two World Cups remain disappointing memories. However, she believes those setbacks have strengthened her desire to guide younger players and contribute to building another successful phase for the national side.

Final ICC mission awaits in England

The upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to begin on June 12 in England and Wales, will now carry extra emotional significance for the experienced seamer. Australia will open its campaign against South Africa women’s national cricket team in Manchester as it aims to secure a record-extending seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title.

While confirming that this tournament will be her final ICC appearance, Schutt clarified that she has not yet taken a decision on complete retirement from all forms of cricket. She acknowledged that the packed international calendar and continuous ICC events make retirement decisions difficult, but added that every player eventually reaches a stage where transition becomes necessary.

Schutt’s announcement marks the closing stages of an era for Australian women’s cricket, with one of its most dependable match-winners preparing for one final global campaign.
