Mushfiqur Rahim creates history with record-breaking century against Pakistan

Mushfiqur Rahim scored 137 against Pakistan, becoming Bangladesh’s highest Test century-maker and breaking Brian Lara’s long-standing age record.

Bangladesh veteran Mushfiqur Rahim once again proved his value on the big stage with a superb century against Pakistan in the second Test. After contributing 71 runs in the opening Test, the experienced batter followed it up with a magnificent 137 off 233 balls, helping Bangladesh strengthen their position in the series. His latest knock not only guided the team closer to a historic series win but also helped him enter the record books.

Mushfiqur becomes Bangladesh’s leading Test centurion

The century was a landmark moment in Bangladesh cricket history. Mushfiqur registered his 14th Test hundred, the most by any Bangladeshi batter in the format. He went past former Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque, who previously held the record with 13 Test centuries.

Mushfiqur reached the three-figure mark with a boundary off Pakistan pacer Mohammad Abbas in the 85th over. He eventually fell after a patient yet commanding innings of 137 runs that came from 233 deliveries.

The knock once again highlighted his experience and composure in difficult overseas conditions. The senior batter has been one of Bangladesh’s most dependable players since making his international debut in 2005. Across a career spanning more than two decades, Mushfiqur has featured in 101 Tests, 274 ODIs and 102 T20Is for Bangladesh.

Veteran batter also surpasses Brian Lara’s milestone

Apart from becoming Bangladesh’s leading Test centurion, Mushfiqur also broke a long-standing age-related record held by legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara. Lara had scored a Test century against Pakistan in Multan in 2006 at the age of 37 years and 201 days.

Mushfiqur surpassed that feat by scoring his century at 39 years and 7 days, making him the oldest batter in the 21st century to score a Test hundred against Pakistan. Bangladesh are already leading the series 1-0 and remains in a strong position in the second Test. Pakistan still need 437 more runs to win, while Bangladesh require 10 wickets with two days remaining in the match.
