The All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Finance Committee has approved an allocation of up to ₹7 crore for the Indian Super League (ISL). The decision was taken at the Finance Committee meeting held on January 5. This approval is being seen as very important at a time when the future of the league had remained uncertain for a long period.

For months, there was confusion over the start of the ISL due to financial difficulties and several management-related issues. The newly approved funds will be used to cover referee expenses, broadcasting costs, prize money, and other administrative requirements. According to sources, this move will help reduce the financial burden on clubs, especially those operating on small and medium budgets.

Relief for clubs

The decision came after several rounds of discussions between the AIFF and the clubs. Earlier, clubs had raised concerns over financial losses, match organisation costs, and broadcasting arrangements. With the Finance Committee's approval, officials believe that most of these issues have now been resolved, clearing the way for the league to go ahead.

League timeline and concessions

The federation had earlier announced that the ISL will begin on February 15. To decide the format of the league, the AIFF sent emails to the clubs on Saturday, asking them to respond by January 5. Once the responses are received and approval is obtained from the AFC, the fixture list will be announced within 48 hours. The federation has also offered relief on the annual participation fee of ₹1 crore, allowing participating clubs to pay the 2025–26 season fee in June, easing financial pressure at the start of the league.
